NRS on Domestic Violence

WHAT IS NRS?

The Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) is the collective name of all the annotated legislation in the Constitution of Nevada. The new revisions were established during the 79th Session of the Congress in 2017 and statutes now consist of 59 titles and 722 chapters that detail laws governing the entire state.

Before they become statutes, laws start off as bills proposed by legislators. They then undergo processes prior to being approved by the legislation. When all is said and done, they are endorsed during a Legislative Session before becoming statutes or codes that are expected to be followed by every citizen and to guide legal proceedings.

The NRS is published by the Legislative Counsel Bureau and is available as a printed book or an online publication. The laws found within the codes of NRS are permanent, at least for a time as it can always be revised every Legislative Session according to legal evaluation and to the needs of the state.

Below are some more important information about the NRS to help you ease up before reading it on its complete form.

LAW CATEGORIES IN NRS?

Remedial Code

As seen from the official website of the Nevada Legislature, the laws found in the NRS are divided into different categories. The first is the Remedial Code which are sections that discuss the official courts of justice in the State, the only courts of record, the place of holding, and the entirety of the court justice system. Civil processes such as limitation of actions, place of trial, as well as the pleadings and motions are also included in the sections of Remedial Code. Remedies that talk about summary procedures, writs, protection orders, arbitration, and damages fit in as well. The Remedial Code covers at least the first ten titles in the NRS.

Civil Code

After the Remedial Code is the Civil Code or the chapters that present the law regarding the relationship between the citizens of the state and the actions that will follow once they reside in Nevada and be involved in a crime or any type of legal battle. This constitutes domestic relations, guardianship, and the wills and estates of a deceased person. Sample chapters are Chapter 122, which expands on the validity of marriage and the crimes that can stem from violating it, while Chapters 126 and 127 focus on parentage and adoption of children and adults, respectively.

Penal Code

The titles found in the Penal Code classification are ones that feature statutes regarding crimes, punishment, correctional institutions to be placed into, and of course, the procedures done in the court to process a case. This is known to start by Chapter 169 which contains regulations on Preliminary Provisions and to end in Chapter 220 which features the provisions, the revision, and the distribution of the Nevada Revised Statutes.

Political Code

By far the lengthiest of all the codes, the Political Code shows all the laws concerning the organizational body of the state beginning from the State Legislative Department down to the Energy Department. Running from Chapter 223 to 722, the Political Code helps officials and ordinary citizens learn their rights regarding the services provided by Nevada. Apart from the mentioned topics, the Political Code also covers the laws about elections, public offices, education, public health, water, wildlife, aeronautics, agriculture, insurance and a lot more!

Other Published Decrees

Along with the Nevada Revised Statutes, other important publications that are published along it are the Nevada Constitution which is the supreme law that holds the statutes together, the City Charters or the official documents that verify a city, present its laws (related to the NRS), and specify the boundaries that it is limited to, and the Nevada Court Rules which is a more focused and in-depth view of the civil procedure in the region.
